ceftazidime IV 2000 mg 3 times daily for 6 weeks

In severely ill or septic patients: consult the medical microbiologist. Consider adding an aminoglycoside pending susceptibility results.

Contraindications: beta-lactam allergy

ciprofloxacin PO 750 mg twice daily for 6 weeks

or

ciprofloxacin IV 400 mg 3 times daily for 6 weeks

Prefer oral ciprofloxacin. If oral administration is not possible, use intravenous ciprofloxacin.

Comments

With proven susceptibility and good clinical response, switch to oral therapy with ciprofloxacin PO 750 mg twice daily
