Prolonged treatment with gentamicin is discouraged.
Gentamicin level monitoring is desirable around the 3rd dose (see under tab TDM, aminoglycosides).
Total duration of therapy at least 6 weeks in uncomplicated cases
Where possible, adjust antibiotics based on culture results
The switch to oral therapy depends on culture results, clinical response and the presence or absence of bacteraemia
