Infection usually occurs only in severely immunocompromised patients. The preferred treatment is to restore immune function as much as possible.
Fumagillin is not yet available in the Netherlands
Severe bone marrow toxicity (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia) has been reported with fumagillin
Use of albendazole during pregnancy and breastfeeding: probably safe during pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimester) and breastfeeding
Take albendazole with a fatty meal (increased absorption).
