Q fever is a notifiable disease, group C
Refer to an infectious diseases specialist if risk factors are present:
Repeat Q fever serology after 9 months to exclude chronic Q fever.
In patients with risk factors, repeat Q fever serology at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
In pregnancy, only during the last month of pregnancy: cotrimoxazole 960 mg twice daily orally. Consult with an infectious diseases specialist/ gynaecologist. Note potential infectivity during delivery.
