Treatment of amoebic abscesses or dysentery is always followed by a contact amoebicide agent: clioquinol (suspension FNA 100 mg/ml) or paromomycin (during pregnancy). Paromomycin is not registered in the Netherlands but is a so-called "ZFW medicine". Within the ZFW medicines paromomycin is not registered for this indication and is therefore not reimbursed.
Entamoeba dispar: no treatment (non-pathogenic).
