No effective treatment available.  In immunocompetent patients, treatment is in principle also not necessary.

In immunocompetent patients, for persistent diarrhoea treatment with

nitazoxanide 500 mg twice daily for 3 days may be considered.

 

In immunocompromised patients, particularly those with a low CD4 count, antibiotic treatment does not appear to be beneficial and is therefore not recommended. If nitazoxanide is nevertheless considered, please consult the pharmacist (due to the cost and delivery time of nitazoxanide versus paromomycin).
