if high likelihood of (simultaneous) gonorrhoea

Comments

High likelihood of simultaneous gonococcal infection: purulent discharge from the penis, contact with a patient with confirmed gonorrhoea

In case of contraindication to quinolones:

  • for epididymitis likely due to a urinary tract infection: cotrimoxazole 960 mg PO, twice daily for 14 days; preferably guided by culture results
  • for epididymitis likely due to an STI: doxycycline 100 mg, twice daily for 14 days 

In addition, if there is a high likelihood of simultaneous gonococcal infection, also provide treatment for gonorrhoea
